Meet Our Multicultural Liaison Officer: Amy Yan

Our school’s Multicultural Liaison Officer (MLO) supports newcomer students and families with settlement services, navigating the school system, language interpretation, and more.

The Multicultural Liaison Officer (MLO) program provides support in multiple languages for students and families who are newcomers and refugees. The Multicultural Liaison Officer works with school staff to welcome newcomer families and connect them with important services, resources, and supports within our school and in the local community.

Amy Yan is the Multicultural Liaison Officer at our school. Amy speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and English and can also help you access support in other languages.

Amy is here to support families with:

  • Settlement services

  • Navigating the school system

  • Language and cultural interpretation

  • Accessing community services

  • Filling out school forms

  • Parent-teacher interviews

  • Getting involved at school, and more!

Bio:

MLO Amy YanAmy has been with OCISO since 2019. Amy loves diverse teams, working with children, youth and families.

Before joining OCISO, Amy worked as an employment counsellor and community youth worker in Ottawa for 6 years. Amy has an advanced diploma in Child and Youth Care from Algonquin.

In their free time, Amy enjoys swimming, gardening, and serving the community. Amy believes that “work in a spirit of service is the highest form of worship.”
